We had this exact same situation where there wasn't enough wall space to mount the EKSU directly above. We used a 15' CAT5 cable between them and had all kinds of problems as a result. Once we reoriented the BKSU to allow use of the standard cable, we never had any more trouble. I'll bet that is exactly what is causing the problem you are having.
