Toshiba Strata CIX, there’s a master box connected to it. I hear a disk spinning but it’s not an even spin and the led lights shut of randomly when I hear the break in the spinning. I opened the box but not all the way, the customer was over my shoulder and I have been known to lose a screw from time to time. I didn’t see a hard drive but I know there is one inside. The customer’s voicemail won’t pick up, calls won’t roll over and the phones don’t ring they just blink. My conclusion is there is a hard drive issue. I have worked on Toshiba Strata’s before but none quite this old so I wanted to run it by the forum to see if you guys agree. Not sure if I am going any further with this customer, he seems to be a slow paying customer. At this point the question is for my own satisfaction.

Most likely the hard drive in the Voicemail that is failing.

In my experience that has always meant replacing the VM along with any system upgrades (if any) required to support it.

I would also thin tat it is probably the Stratagy IES32 Voicemail that has a bad hard drive. I have replaced several of these. The fan can sometimes make a lot of strange noises also, but if your voicemail is not answering then it is possible the hard drive is failing.

You don't have too many options besides send it in for repair or replace it with a new voicemail system. You could power cycle the system on the chance that the noise is just the fans and the voicemail system is just locked up and a reboot will fix it, but what ever cause the system to stop working will make it stop working again.
