I have an Inter-Tel 5000 System version 2.4.1.30
We have 4 incoming POTS lines in a hunt.
All 4 lines are programmed to keys on each phone. Lines 1 through 4

Line 1 (the main lead line) seems to be the issue.
When we get a call to that number, Line 1 is blinking green, but at the same time, Line 2 starts blinking red. After 1.5 rings, Line 1 goes red for a split second, then goes off completely. Line 2 changes from red blinking to green blinking at the same time Line 1 changes. You can then answer the call. If you try to answer the call while it is ringing green on Line 1, you get dead air.

What does the red/green mean? Does this sound like lines are crossed somewhere? Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Green generally indicates a call that is active on a phone, either ringing or on hold at that station. Red usually means that the line is in use by another station.

My guess would be a crossed line or some type of forwarding is active. Defective hardware is also a possibility. I’d start by isolating the trunks at the demarc and test with a butt set.

Thanks, I'm thinking some type of forwarding active, because it is pretty consistent. I am not onsite, so can't do testing at the demarc. We have the phone system vendor and Verizon meeting this afternoon. They have both been out there previously, but not at the same time. Hopefully, they can resolve.

I’d also think seriously about upgrading the system to 5.1. You’re about 4 years out of date, and version 2 had some quirky bugs that were fixed in later releases.

I agree on the upgrade. There are issues with older releases that the 5.1 fixed. Many of the issues started to happen after the system had been in service for awhile.
