Anyone take a look at the MBX? Yesterday I took the online certification course and signed up for the class at my local Graybar.
From what I can tell, it's the Vodavi Telenium in new skin. I wasn't too impressed with the Telenium and we still have our NFR collecting dust on a shelf...

Vertical is partnered up with LG. And LG did not make all the components for the XTS. So to cut out the competition, LG is making/assembling all the components of the the MBX.
I will be taking the online certification class within the week and will sign up for the Graybar show too. Never dealt with the Telenium because we were not impressed with it either.
Just took the graybar class. In my mind, it's an SBX on steroids. 8-port, 100 hr. voice mail can expand to 24 ports, 300 hrs. More lines, more stations. Wave file on email. I like it.
If Vertical comes out with the 12 port Comdial digital board as promised, it will be a migration path forward for Comdial DXP, FXII, FXS, FXT, MP5000 systems of the past. We also took the Graybar training. It's a hybrid PBX, hardware quality looks good and software quality will hopefully be stable like the SBX has been. It is a rebranded LG Ericsson IPECS-MG.

Will the MBX IP be replacing the STSe and the SBX IP ? I went to the Graybar Class yesterday and didn't do my homework. I was under the impression it would be competive as a small system but could be expanded to fit just about any need. The price for a small system is way too high.
No, the marketing is that it is the "big brother" of the SBXip 320. It fits in a network with SBX's or as a larger stand alone system that can support legacy digital telephones. The MBX and Wave will eventually replace the FXII and XTS systems and the SBX will replace the STSe and DX-120. The older systems I mention have NOT be discontinued or EOL yet, so that time could be a while away.
Just saw this post... I think I may have been in that Graybar class in Glendale Hieghts with a few of you. It looks impressive, but I need to find the right customer for it.

How do I get the blue smoke back into the system??
Well, after my first MBX install, which is not actually done, I have a few thoughts.
What went well...
PRI sync... Flexible number plan Some pretty nice default settings that save time Easy voice mail setup some nice features on coverage and rolling over calls. 320 series phones are good quality best call logging feature I have really ever seen. Logs ALL calls and allows return calls.
What needs work from them...
Knowledgable tech support, but limited staff, so plan on waiting on hold for a bit. This will probably get better as they add more staff to meet product demands.
You have to record voice mail prompts and announcements for the attendant position. I figured out how to get around this by making a second attendant position.
The station cards... They originally came out with RJ-45 ports on the cards, but changed to amphenol. I have been told they are going to only offer amphenol connections. I have conveyed to their inside sales that this would be a very poor idea. To many of our cable infrastructures now are Cat5/6 to patch panel for everything. Having the ability to install modular cards that can patch over is very important. I hope they listen on this and offer both types. I would not have an issues paying a few bucks more one type of card. But having the ability to choose is application critical. The RJ-45 ports also convey a more modern and clean look. The amphenol cables don't dress in that great.
Another thing that is frustrating is that the 320 phones us the outside pins for signaling. Not a big deal if the wiring is standard, you can just cross connect to the outside pair. However, in an enivronment where there were short cuts made, it really screws you up and cost a lot of time rewiring jacks. Plus, the RJ-45 ports on the system send out the signaling on pins 4&5, so now you have switch those somehow. I should would like to see them standardize a bit to the center pins for signaling.
I would like to see them offer a couple of trunk ports on the CPU. Right now you get 6 digital & 6 SLI ports. I would love to have say a 6/4/2 combination. I have to order an additional trunk card today so I could interface some customer equipment. I would be nice to have a couple built in for that, or too even hook up a back up 1FB.
You can copy button assignments, but only on a limited basis by station range. This wasn't a big deal today, because we didn't have a lot of digital phones, and they were mostly the same. But if you have a system with 40+ phones on it, and you want to have some different button mapping on certain phones, be ready to do it one at a time.
It will be interesting to see what changes they make in the up coming software updates.
