Yes, ahead of the system. Works as discribed.

We wired a fax machine ahead of the x16 system on the last line a while back. Worked well. No need for a fax switch.

With all the variables involved, I am amazed when any voice and data technology works like it is supposed to.

Dave, Its been over a year but I think I turned off ringing at all the phones on Line 6. They were to use line 6 only for outgoing calls when no other lines were available. If a fax connected to the line, the line 6 line appearance light came on and no barge in is able to occur when in use. No problems have been reported.

I wired a cordless on the line 1 aux port and the busy lamp showed up fine.
Also had a fax on the same line, but forgot to wire it on the aux port. To my surprise the fax showed up when busy on line 1 as well?

Anything wire ahead of the system upon going off hook will cause a voltage drop and light the lamp. That's the way it was designed so you'd know if a device ahead of the system was in use and not barg in.

The problem is that SLT's are not properly supported by the X16. You can do as you describe and in a few instances that may very well work. However, most of my clients that want to attach a cordless phone want to be able to Xfer to/from the cordless....which the X16 cannot do.

Guys, Bill I need alittle help here. I have installed a dozen or so X16 systems, no pro, because most were plain jayne. I must say though, it is a pretty neat system when you consider the cost. Also, I have yet to have a product failure.

So my question is about hooking up an anlog device and having an indicator (light on that co line)

Correct me if I am wrong, but am I reading that if I cut in an analog phone (cordless) on a CO port outside the system, while that device is off hook, the system will show that line in use (light on the digital sets for that line) ?
