Hi
We have installed a DCS system in a doctors office. The problem we are having is that he wants it setup so when he is on the phone with someone in his office and a patient arrives the receptionist can hit a button on her phone and send a tone to his speaker on his phone to let him know a patient is awaiting. Its setup to do mostly that right now. It will tone him but it cuts into the conversation after the tone. The caller on the otherside cannot hear the cut in but the doctor can. So it blocks the conversation for a few secs. He just wants the tones and nothing more. What Can I do?

You just need to program an OHVA (Off Hook Voice annonce) button on the receptionist phone and it will do the job.

It's not exactly what you want but how about this...a MW key that will light up a button on his phone. You can do a VT Transfer to that number and leave a message who is waiting so he can look at their file before he comes out. Make the button far away from his regular MW key so he sees the difference

Actually an easier way may be to put a MS button on the reception phone with his extension assigned to the button. MS = manual signalling. This will send a few tones to the extension whether the phone is idle or being used. It does not cut off the conversation but he will hear the tones during the conversation each time the button is pressed on the reception phone. This may give you exactly what you're looking for.

Is the system you have a DCS, as you state. If so the only thing that will work is the OHVA.

Oh, my bad, should have noticed the DCS, that means no MS button. OHVA does cut off the conversation though unfortunately. It looks like your only option. Something else you could do is wire an analog extension to the office and either put a quite bell on it or an analog phone that you could call with the ringer on low to alert the Doc.

Yes, any of the newer OS systems have that feature in the software.
