I have a standard AT&T or Verizon line hooked to 6 different systems at 6 different locations.
From my office I also have a standard loop line from AT&T.

I open VMMI and try to connect via modem and I get coms for a sec, and then get the Remote Party Disconnect message. I never get enough coms to see the serial number in the bottom right of VMMI..
Any suggestions on settings for my modem.
I have tried both a US robotics USB modem and also a USB to serial desk style modem... both have all the same settings and I've tried a bunch of combos...
Could there be something I need to put in the dial string or something.. I'm stumped. :bang:

I have had limited luck with newer modems. I have an old PC with a generic 56K modem that will connect everytime but I also have newer machines/modems that won't connect at all.

I use an old 14.4 most of the time. Works every time!

I use an external Trendnet with a modem filter from Sandman on the line . So far so good. Use it for DX80s,120s and Mitels.

This kind of stuff can be very frustrating, for sure.

I've found that a good external serial-connected 33.6 or slower/older seems to work well. Many of the newer speed and compression protocols seem to cause trouble. Also, be sure to turn off compression if you see it as an available option.

Modems can be very frustrating.

I use either a Conexant D850 56K internal on my one machine, and it's OK most of the time. On the other machine, I have an old 9600 something external, and it never misses. That sucker must be almost 20 years old.

I agree with the rest that the new modems just don't work well, try an old slow one.

can you connect the switch in question with hyperterminal and current modem?

..if not it may be a line issue out at the site.

Don't ask why but try changing your direct connection com port to the same com port# of your modem. Save the site then try and connect to the system via the modem. You can also try setting your max modem speed to 19.2K in the control panel. This has worked for me in the past.

Tried a bunch of these and no luck... I hate modems... someone should have invented TCPIP years ago..
