DX-80 was installed a few years ago. No voice mail attached. Using 4 co ports and 6 ext ports.

Customer called today and said unit was dead, upon arrival I found that the ceramic 6 amp fuse in F2 was blown. I replaced the fuse and powered up the unit. It blew the fuse immediately.

What could cause this and how can I get it fixed?

Robert

Bad Power supply. Let me know if you need one, I might be able to salvage one from a crash kit, I'm not sure if I have one. If I don't I know where you can buy them.

Could be any of the boards in the system. Look at all for physical damage like burnt components. If you're lucky it's an analog board that can be removed to restore system service. Rarely is just the power supply bad.

True. That kind of damage usually takes something else along, you can disconnect and test the power supply for output and see if it takes the fuse out when it's off the system.

I did check the other components briefly, they look fine on the outside. The power supply is putting out 115v. I tested this at a point after the power switch. My guess is that the power supply is okay. Is there anything else that could cause the fuse to blow?

Thanks for the responses.

Pull all the boards except for the main bottom board. Add them back one at a time to see which card is blowing the fuse.

I'm not a Comdial expert, you're not testing the power supply if you're getting 115V, you're simply testing the switch. The power supply should be putting out a low DC voltage and maybe a 48AC voltage, correct?

I'd have to check a good one to be sure but I think there should be a 5 VDC and a 48V dc output, really need to check a good one to know for sure. Your right about the 115 that's not a valid test for powering the system.

I understand what you are saying about the power test. I was trying to see if the power was getting past the power supply.

I did disconnect all of the boards, replaced the fuse and powered up. The AC fuse blew this time (F1). This pretty much puts the problem back on the power supply or the circuit board the transforms the power to DC.

How can I test just the power supply?

Robert
