How do you set up the directory so that a caller can enter the first three letters of a last name and get a list of employees? I have going through all the users’ voice mail options as well as the supervisor’s options and have been unable to find that feature.

Just to clarify a bit. When a voice mailbox is set up the user get a tutorial and one of the options is to joint he directory. If they do not set it up at that time how can they be added later?

In voice mail the * (star) is already set up as the digit to access the directory. Then the system (VM) looks at the letters in the last name entry, and plays the name recorded in those mailbox's where the entry matches.

How do you set up the mapping from Smith to 764? Do I need to have compter access to the DX-80, or can I do it from phone?

You can do it from the phone but you need a keyvoice supervisor manual and the password to the supervisor box.

VM users are given the option to be included in the directory and prompted for letter entry when setting up vm boxes.

But only if they follow thru the tutorial all the way to the end, and also only if there has been nothing already typed into the last name field when programming a mailbox from laptop. The way I read it, and have experienced, is if someone types something in the last name field, the prompt for entering digits for your name is not played in the tutorial.

The DX80 has nothing to do with this issue, this is a function of the voice mail system and mailbox programming.

There are 2 options for this question: You can have the user restart the tutorial(see user instructions) and become part of the dial by name directory. Or just reset the mailbox (supervisor programming-mailbox administration) and make the user go through the tutorial again and become part of the directory.
