I have seen my share of strange things when dealing with electronics, but this one has to rank right up there.

Our office manager (ext 300) left today at lunch for vacation. Before leaving, she attempted to set her station to immediately forward all calls to the receptionist (ext 301). The extension was already set to forward B/NA to voicemail. When we attempted to set it to forward to the other extension, as soon as we pressed the 1 in 301, there was a click sound, and both phones would go dead for approximately 30 seconds. The entire system may have gone down for that time period, I can't say for certain one way or the other.

When the phones would come back to life, the 300 station wasn't on forward to anything anymore. We tried this twice and had the same thing happen both times. We went back and reset the 300 station to Fwd B/NA -> VM for now.

Has anyone ever seen an issue like this before, and what did you do to fix it?

The NEC Elite systems by default have stations numbered in the 100's. The Aspire, I series, DSX, and DS1000/2000 systems have stations numbered in the 300's. The Aspire and I series systems do not have a station 300. So unless someone reconfigured the numbering system at the time of install, my guess is that you may have either a DSX or DS1000/2000 system.

If the office manager has left for vacation, can you call forward "All" calls "immediate" to 301?

To do this press [Menu] ([PGM] on the DS1000/1000), press [CFWD], press [IMM], dial 301, press [ALL].

Now, all calls will immediately ring 301.

It is a DSX-80 system, sorry I didn't specify that before.

We did exactly what you said:

To do this press [Menu] (no problem here)

press [CFWD] (no problem here)

press [IMM] (no problem here)

dial 301 (when we dial 301 on the keypad, as soon as we press the 1, there is a clicking sound and the phone's display goes blank, as does the phone at extension 301 as well, like the phone system has lost power.)

After about 30 seconds the phones power back up, but the Cfwd is not in place.

If the receptionist is the designated operator extension on the system, try the same process but just do a "0" as the forwarding destination.

The problem is, when the system was set up (before I got there), the office manager was given the 300 extension and made the system "operator" as she de facto runs the office. The receptionist was assigned the 301 extension and by system programming is just a standard user.

Check program 1406-02 (Allow Call Forwarding) for Class of Svc 1, and 2.......... should be set to "y" for yes. Check program 2102-01 for station 300 (should be Class of Svc 1) and same program for station 301 (should be class of svc 2).

I checked both program settings and they are correct based on what you said. Still have the issue trying to forward to ext 301.

I may suggest that you completely delete ext 301 from the pbx , then reassign it...this method can solve many many issues...hope this will help.

What version of software is running on the system?

This sounds like a bug that has already been corrected.
