I think you need a NULL MODEM CABLE for access to the voicemail. Gender changers will not do it. Alternately, find a NULL MODEM ADAPTOR to fit on one end of your straight through cable.

Good luck.

Apparently, from a google search, this is what I find:

------
Serial (RS232) null modem cable (DB9-DB9). Pinout and signals for building a serial (RS232) nullmodem cable
Use this cable between two DTE devices (for instance two computers).

DB9 pin D-SUB female to PC1
DB9 pin D-SUB female to PC2

DB9-1 DB-2
Receive Data 2 3 Transmit Data
Transmit Data 3 2 Receive Data
Data Terminal Ready 4 6+1 Data Set Ready + Carrier Detect
System Ground 5 5 System Ground
Data Set Ready + Carrier Detect 6+1 4 Data Terminal Ready
Request to Send 7 8 Clear to Send
Clear to Send 8 7 Request to Send

Note: DSR & CD are jumpered to fool the programs to think that they are online.
-------

Good luck

Is your connection speed correct?? Older mails connect at 19200. The new mails connect at 57600.

so far i have tried both baud rates, and nothing. here's what i'm doing, i just went and bought a Null modem cable so i know thats right. i open cosessions and the cosessions remote viewer control center appears. i set the baud rate and all the other connections to the specified paramater 8,N,1 Xon/Xoff i've tried 19200 and 57600, by the way this is a new vmp (x)U40 on an Electra Elite IPK. i haven't changed any of the dip switches since i pulled it out of the box. on the main screen under cosessions i click CALL and it goes to a dos screen for about 15 seconds then returns to the main screen.
what am i doing wrong?

This may not help, but cosessions with the Covoice voicemail (vsr) has a host program and a remote program, you may have loaded the host or vicesa versa

I get the impression that this mail is out of the box and new and you put it to gether??

Just a thought..
On the mails we get the default setting for HDD not CF at jumper J7 that is located by the button battery. If it is set to HD the mail will not boot and you can't connect..
