I've been asked to program/install an old DK-16e with an IVP8 VM. I'm only certified on the CTX/CIX series, but am using a DK manual.

I can't seem to get the IVP8's ports to come up as extensions and/or get any of the Stratagy Admin applications to handshake properly with the IVP8.

Main question: Does the IVP8 have to go into a slot such as my 2 2x4 expansion cards are currently in (slots 04 and 05) or can it magically sit in slot 06 and still have voice connectivity to the KSU? I've moved it all over the slots, and in none of them does it come up as dialable extensions (should be x235 based on slot 05's layout). I've programmed whatever slot I've put it into as type '31' (RSTU) as specified.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jim

Welcome jimbobebob,

Do you have an analog card (RSTU) to test with? Put it in place of the IVP8 and connect your but set to the wt/bl-bl/wt and call it/call out to see if it works.

No, we don't have any of the DK vintage cards laying around; just whatever this customer sent to us to install for him.

The port's don't come up?? Meaning when you call them it just rings? The IVP8 by default will not work in a DK 16e, you must run plug and play on it.

As far as admin not working, You need a admin cable, plug that into port 2 on the IVP8. Be sure the admin software is set to use the correct comm port on your laptop, most likely comm 1. Also be sure you are communicating at the correct baud rate. If it is a somewhat older IVP8 use 9600, the newer ones use 56000.

By running 'plug and play' on it, do you mean Program 03 to let it auto discover the card, or is there a plug and play to the Stratagy Admin (if so, I haven't seen it)?

Trying to dial what would be the extensions of VM according to next slot, only results in the message '235 VACANT'...they don't just ring and ring.

What troubles me is, I have need for all 8 lines on the KSU and expansion KCDU boards (which each bring 2COx4STA) but that also fills out all 16 of my available extensions, and presumably there are none left for the 2 ports of the IVP8 board (if it were plugged into slot 06 for instance). That's why I was temporarily foregoing the last 2 CO ports and removing the KCDU in slot 05, and reidentifying slot 05 as '31' for the IVP8 (and it would have taken over x235 and x236 in my case).

Please elaborate on the plug and play

Thanks,
Jim

The Plug N Play is a configuration step with the Stratagy voicemail. You need to be able to communicate with it via the serial cable using your laptop/PC.
Why don't you start by giving us a little more information such as;
Program 03 what codes are programmed in all slots?
What is programmed in Program 04 all ports?
Is your Expansion cabinet a DKSUET16A or DKSUE16 ?

Well, I got hold of one more knowledged than I on another forum, and he has determined that due to my part numbers being 'K'xxx I have a DK-16, not a DK-16e, and my IVP8 (release 1, white faceplate) will not work. So we're sending that back and getting a voicemail module compatible with a DK-16 (non-e).

FYI:
Expansion cabinet is a DKSUET16A
Program 03
00=92 K4RCU2A
01=64 KSU
02=11 KCOU1A
03=31 (blank)
04=65 KCDU1
05=65 KCDU1
06=31 IVP8
Program 04 (200 series extensions, not in order)
00~11=200...230, with skips in sequence
12=231
13=232
14=233
15=234
16=235
17=236
18=237
19=238
