It would normaly be prog 32. If all line are in pool group 01 set in prog 16 it would grab the highest line. If you want the system to grab line 2 then 5 for example you would have to program least cost routing. you cannot have it crab line 1,2,3,4,5 without LCR.

Are all 5 lines in a rotary group? If they are, I would try to talk him out of that...... Why would he want to tie up line 1 all the time?

You would have to use LCR like snokie said. 5 LCR Route Definitions. Not the best solution, but it will work

Seems to silly to mention, but punch down line 5 where line 1 is, punch down line 4 where line 2 is, leave line 3 where it is, punch down line 2 where line 4 is, punch down line 1 where line 5 is.

If they are all in a rotary and want to use 1 first this will work. Still, it seems silly.

I thought of that, too (silly as it is). But then the calls would roll in from L5 to L1.

Tell your customer that they will pick up incoming calls by accident if they do that. It doesnt make sense unless you got more info.

Sometimes the easiest fix is to tell them NO. Otherwise you will more than likely have a "go-back".

Hope this helps.

iowaphones is right. Offhook preference to CO line is a bad idea at the best of times. and offhook preference of the main line first is an even worse idea. users will get incoming calls when they go off hook to dial out.

Well, it is silly and both telemarv and iowaphones are right on the money that off hook preference will make them unhappy and you unhappy if you come back for a free change.

If you don't do off hook preference, you could do what I suggested and then program the buttons on the phone so line 5 is where 1 is now, line 4 is where line 2 is now etc.

Iowaphones is cool to say no. There are times when customers ask me to do crazy things, most often because they have no idea what else would happen and then bitch that I didn't tell them that would happen.

I look at them like their face had just turned into a Martian. I scrunch my neck down, squint my eyes and open my mouth. In about two seconds they figure out that they have said something dumb.

"You what?" "That would be a great idea except it won't work. Do you want the long technical explanation or do you want to trust me?"

At least 9 out of 10 times this gets the desired result. The rest of the time I tell them that it is the normal hourly rate to do this and $50 an hour extra to come back and change it when you figure out it doesn't work. "You really should trust me." I love it when they say "OK," and change the subject or walk away. (Easier to do this when you work for youself.)
