Good Morning!

I stopped by a house to help a friend last night. The place has network and phone problems, so we are going to be re-wiring and fixing that area.

He has a D1232 Panasonic w/ two lines. The first line is working as should. Can call in and out. The second line has his DSL, Fax, and phones on it.

Line two is accessed through the system to make outbound calls, and can pickup inbound calls before the fax picks up. The line is set to automatically forward to the fax and not ring on the sets.

However, Line two has a slight malfunction to where it will not allow dialing out. You can pick up line two, and attempt to dial, but dial tone remains throughout the entire dialing sequence. I have yet to hook up a buttset to see if DTMF is being passed.

I did have time to flip line one and line two, on the station side. When doing so, line two was now on line one CO port, etc. It worked perfectly that way.

Any ideas on this, please let me know.

Another problem is the original installer grouped the CO ports. He has Line One where it should, Line Two is actually on the CO-05, but programmed to pickup on the Line Two CO button on the phones.

I'm sure that takes programming, which I have done panasonic programming before, just not with this system particularly.

Thanks for any help, thoughts, advice, or PM's.

if the 2nd c.o. is pluged into line 5 position
on the ksu you may have blown c.o. ports on the system....

I'm not sure if it's blown ports, or if the original installer was a little lazy. There are wiring mistakes everywhere, and nothing is labeled. I think maybe the original installer was being lazy and didn't want to crimp the two lines together. This system has the ports as:

7,8
5,6
3,4
1,2

paired together. I could easily fix the wiring on the ports, but I'd need to program the system for the second CO appearance to route to CO-02 instead of CO-05.

If you frogged the lines and the trouble stayed with the station(s) 2nd line appearance, sounds like you may have the line as incoming only, or a bad port.

Just re-read this and you said you frogged it on the station side so that would rule out a bad co port. I'm betting programming.

My bad-
I meant system side, not station side smile

The two lines worked as should when I put two on one and one on two. However, he needs line two to stay on line two because the faxes are constant at the home.

Thanks for the input. I've got the programming manual here.

A reach, but........ wrong polarity on co line 2 and port for line 2 has a problem that prevents dialing. OR, line is DTMF and 'D' is programmed pulse-dial on port to prevent dial out by phones in system. Used to be you had to pay money for DTMF. Now you have to beg for pulse dial! This will turn out to be either interesting, OR a forehead smacker, 'As in, why didn't I think of that!' smile John C. (Not Garand)

Are you saying when you put line one where line two is that the line works correctly with line one hook up to it? If that's the case check the line voltage of both on and off hook also the loop current.

County Wide, that would be true, IF the TD hasn't been damaged by THOR. I'm assuming that possibility because of the fact that they are using CO 1 and CO5 in the cabinet. Yeah, I know about ass u me! But, like I said, this is gonna be an interesting one or a forehead smacker! smile John C. (Not Garand)

Well line two is back on CO2, where it should be. It turns out that the dial-out problem is on Frontier's end! Will keep you updated.
