ok, I just received a call from a guy that has a Panasonic system installed in a house. (He has no idea what model and could not give me the model off the back of the phone.

The door box stopped working. Its one of the brass plate door boxes. He said if he shorted the wires together it would start to ring the phone. He did not test if you could answer it or hear out of it once he shorted it.

Anyways, can somebody point me in the right direction? Can I take just any 2 wire door box and make it work or does it have to be a Panasinic door box?

The model off the phone would't help you much many phones work with many types of systems. But pretty much any door phone box would work. I generally stick to Panasonic's though

If you want to tie it into the panasonic door phone card, (different cards for different systems) then you need their doorphone.
Regardless of the system, the door stations are the same.
If you can short the wires and it rings the phones but no audio either way then it's probably a bad station. It does have a seperate speaker and mic.It's probably a KX-T 30865 that was fitted onto a brass faceplate.
It's also possible he has the new KX-T7775 unit with a KX-A401 brass plate.
Someone's going to have to go out there or the owner is going to have to take the initiative of finding out exactly what he has.
