We purchased a used 4-port Partner Mail for our Merlin II. We were told by vendor this will work on our system. This is a first attempt at installing this type of voicemail although have equipment experience, specifically Norstar MICS/CICS,NAM & BCM.

When I power on the unit, there are no lights on any of the 4 ports and after a few minutes there is a constant beep. I will attempt to connect via null modem to reset VM to factory defaults based on info I found online. But before I attempt to do so...my question is, the beeping sound and no port lights...does this mean the VM is dead? Or do I need to assign voicemail ports on our Merlin II? Any help and/or Partner Mail documentation is greatly appreciated.

At the risk of sounding ignorant, just how does one plug a Partner Mail VS into a Merlin II chassis? Is there a non-integrated version of the VS? You need a Merlin Messaging or a Merlin Legend Mail. Nothing Partner will work. If you are getting a steady beep from the Partner that means it has failed the POST.

Non of mentioned VM would work on Merlin II. I don't remember now but it used to be a VM (I belive Voices) that was design to Integrate with AT&T Merlin systems. It used looped ststion and Trunks connection to provide DTMF to VM.

It was Voysys that worked (kind of) on the Merlin systems.... but it was not the tight integration you see today between phone system and v-mail.

PM Cook - he said Partner Mail which was the old box style that used analog station ports to connect.

I would approach the vendor who told you it would work and ask for your money back... they were just plain wrong and sold you something that will not work.

Voysys worked with the 206 410 820 with FP2 and the Merlin plus R1 and R2. If you put the upgrade key in the side it would convert it to work with a 1030/3070 FP 4 or FP5.

You could put a Legend Processor in and use a laptop and 355AF cable to program or put an MLX card in too and use a MLX20L to program .

Regardless though, you have the wrong voice mail.

Anyway you look at it, you are probably going to want to call in an avaya guru that can program it up correctly.

I did a bunch of woodsheding on the Avaya support site last night.

Merlin II will actually work with a MERLIN Mail, the "PC on the wall" type.

(Of course, it will NOT work with a Partner Mail)

Which is strange because we picked up a site with Merlin Mail on a Partner II and it functions fine (for now anyway). Anyway sounds like the drive is bad. I would ask for a refund.

Probably was a Partner mail not a Merlin mail.
TTT you probably talking about Merlin II with Legend Processor. I am not a 100% positive but Merlin II didn't even had an option for VM ports in it. But maybe I am wrong. It was along time.

That's why I downloaded all the Merlin II manuals last night. I didn't think it was possible myself.
