Take a look at the positive terminal on your car battery, well..on someone's car that isn't well maintained. You'll see the positive lead and terminal has had most of the conductor eroded away. The metalic ions migrate from positive to negative.

By using a negative voltage talk battery system, the positive ground points are sacrificed instead of the negative copper wire conductors.
