I am the in-house telecom guy for a small university in Iowa.
I was asked by the administration here if there was a way to have the calling extension's number display on the Caller ID of the called party's phone (vs. the Trunk number that carried the call).
And also, if someone called into the PBX and dialed that extension, same deal - they'd see the extension number in their Caller ID.
We have a PBX that's too old to do anything that fancy. But I have heard that Tadiran has a feature called "Alternate Line ID" that may..
Could anyone on this forum please confirm?
Thanks,

Didn't you just post this on the NEC forum? Tadiran can be upgraded to the latest and greatest depending on your system. Tadiran can pretty much do the whole thing with caller ID but the devil is in the details. Version of software, cards, configuration for trunks, type of system etc. FYI the Tadiran is very unforgiving for anyone not certified on it.

Yes, I did post to NEC forum, since they also have a similar feature, and the general forum ( where I started this thread) suggested I ask each mfr about their particular PBX.
We don't plan to upgrade our ancient NEC PBX, so another mfr could be considered...but from what you say, Tadiran doesn't look like an easy solution..
Thanks,

Tadiran is an easy product for techs to work with very organized just not end user friendly. If you want to install it yourself and do all your own programming. I don't know of a good suggestion for you to go with, you might look into what tech training is available and what your boss will get you trained on. I find Mitel 5000's Programming interface great for GUI lovers, Mitel 3300's Web Interface is painful, and Tadiran's command line is just snappy and easy. My 2 Cents.

What Dustin said. I love using command line...it's SO much faster but, you have to know what your are doing...just like anything else. Tadiran, for a college, is in it's element. True 90V ring current and bellcore standards, meaning modems and fax machines will run at full speed over PRI's etc, and digital phones that can have a loop over 2000 feet and over 5000 with local power and of course VOIP ready...and it can get huge.
