trying to decide between an IPX-4000 and a comparable Avaya system. can anyone provide any information as far as if one is more reliable than the other or historically has less problems in the long run.

I do not have too much experience with Avaya, but all of the Tadiran products are rock solid from my experience. And the feature set cannot be beat.

also has anyone installed a IPX-4000 or worked with one. what should i expect once the decision is made? it seems there isn't that many out in the field.

The IPX800, 3000, 4000, 5000 etc series systems are all comparable save size and a few options on duplicated common control and fiber shelves. I have done 3000's and 5000's. Expectations should be based on the company and not so much product IMHO. Avaya has more systems deployed, but may not be as fiscally viable as Tadiran. I mean Nortel just filed bankruptcy. I don't see Tadiran doing that anytime soon. Also understand Tadiran is designed for the long run 10+ years. I have seen systems out there still running EKT phones from the 80's, running the newest stuff and IP. Depending on application/cost/company reliability these are the biggest decisions. Tadiran is a pretty solid product..one only has to actually feel the weight and quality of the circuit cards, power supplies etc to see it's not made cheaply.
