PU= Pick up (key). A 6 button phone had 5 pickups (and a hold button) a 10 button phone had 9 PUs etc.

The red hold button was used for that purpose for sure.

It was usually set up with a separate Key Assembly of some type (the numbers/names fail me).

Of course, in my heyday with these systems, I think I only saw one in all of downtown Dallas, with the exception of what the SWBell engineers created.

Man I hated working on their stuff. It was always such a surprise.
