Got a Valcom V2000 horn hooked up to a meridian 8x24. Problem is we get a very loud hum coming over the horn, that we cannot seem to isolate. Problem occurs when connected to the phone system, and also if we disconnect it. As soon as the system receives power, we get the hum. Anyone have any types of ideas, or questions?

Are you using a paging port or a CO trunk port for the paging access?

Have tested it with both, and we get the same issue. We also have the problem when the paging system is not hooked up to the phone system.

V-2000 is the control unit for powering valcom self amp horns. What horns are you using?

I didn't read all this, but here\'s the installation instrutions sounds like something is either mis-wired or being over driven. If you're only using one self amp speaker why would you be using this control unit?

Have your che checked the volume on the horn itself. I know if the volume is turned up to loud you will get a feed back sometimes. It could also be a bad horn too.

Are you getting clean DC power to the horn? Valcom's power supplies put out filtered DC (the output is smoothed with capacitors to remove any hum). If these have failed, you'll get unfiltered DC where everything works, but it is noisy.
You may also want to consider placing a short across the background music input terminals of the paging control. It could be a simple case of nearby AC being picked up and amplified.

Have you checked DIP switch settings on the control unit to verify proper setup? Most control units will have various options that can be set.

It sounds like the horn is just turned up all the way. If it needs to be that way for the coverage, I would add another horn & set the volume on both of them to about 2/3 of the way up.
