I have successfully used crocus cloth to polish relay and dial pad contacts, and pcb edge connectors for 35 years. This stuff is about 2000 grit, I guess. I don't think there is enough time in 1 man's life to take the gold 'flashing' off DTMF pad contacts with this stuff! The catch is, you have to 'break it in'. I tear a strip off the sheet, and run it across a thin piece of steel to 'break down' the abrasive points. The back of a saw blade works well to do this. Like you are polishing shoes with a cloth across the toe. (Polishing shoes, there's a job that doesn't happen any more! How do you polish 'semi teni's, suede boots, etc) John C.

Lightning You're right about the crocus cloth, among my other failings like forgetting stuff from long ago and (this morning). I forgot about that because we very seldom used it for dial contacts; mostly on relay contacts, unitl they came out with the triclorofloroethylene spray. Still used the bell bond papers to wipe of the contacts tho.
