Wow, you're putting an * for an actual, paying customer. At a site that has to have there phones actually work? With 60 phones and 4 PRIs?

Ohhh, you're joking right? I get it...

No, this is not BS. Server is up and ready to rock and Im still reading the book. Only 1 PRI to start.
We only need to set up in basic fashion to start.
DID to each phone, main number to group. 70 Grandstreamm phones, 13 ata for slt hot dialer phones. First time for a Laser, real easy setup, POE powered from Dell Switch, 0 lag. Am I up to My but in alligators???????????????

So far so good. Got about 40 phone up. Switched PRI
from old system and it took off. Good sound quality.
This looks like a powerful system! A lot of programming to set up.

Any new issues other than the less than desirable speakerphone quality? Yours may one of the largest non home Asterisks I've heard of being implemented.

voice quality is very good. Badly need a way to copy setup programming for each phone. They say this is coming. Calls coming in and going out on 1 PRI.
A few users have set up Broadvoice accts.
Only real problem so far has been Laser going off line due to quirky POE switch.

So far only real problems have been with the Laser going up and down.
Working now to implement All Page system wide and Auto Answer intercom.

Cutover on 1/15. Buildings are 6000ft apart, Laser is by Litepoint, (had a quirky unit, replaced and working great now, .6 avg Ping time)connecting the buildings. Server and PRI circuit is in bldg A, 60 Grandstream and 16 slt are in remote build B.
Intercom button and paging is an app you have to manually input. I figure once I get this one the way
I want, we will image the drive and be ready for the next one. Server is a heavy duty basic Linux box with Raid 1 setup. Still reading and learning and watching internet forums.

Auto answer intercom and paging missing as noted. You have to build this in. Call center pgm built in but have not tried it yet. Transfer to another ext works a little strange, you press Xfer, dial ext, party your transfering comes back on line till hangup or other party answers. I think we can solve that. Sorry no pricing on forum, will send PM later.

We recently did a large cabling job quad Cat6 for a company that deployed an Asterisk solution with anout 150 phones. I could not beleave it my self because we sell a variety of VoIP solutions. But after the IT Manager should me it in motion I was a believer. They had all Cisco phones and a IT department to support it daily.

Since then I have one on our tech bench playing around with it. I see this being more and more the norm as time goes by. Look at Linux...who would of thought it has came to the mainstream as much as it has over the years for computers.

But for the normal office with no interal IT department with the time an desire to deal with this it is not a good fit.

"They had all Cisco phones and a IT department to support it daily."

Ouch. For 150 phones? That's brutal.

Our main problem after burn in has been the frikken Laser. On our second LitePoint 150 and cold weather wacks it out. May have to switch to Radio but they dont want to give up 100 meg throughput and dont want to spring for the 30k self alighning modle of Laser. The system itself is working great within it's limitations. The Astrik system itself has never crashed or otherwise done bad things.

bro,
What a small world. I know Tim, used to do some contract work for him. He is a good man.
Are you using SIP clients (softphones) at all? We are trying to get an * box working as an alternative to Skype. Any thoughts?

Richard

The most basic model Grandstream phones aren't too bad, other than the noted speakerphone issue. But the "4 line" model and the two ATA models routinly crashed on us. It was just an experiment at first to see if we could use it in house as a PBX. But what we really needed in a PBX is the line and station presence, which Asterisk and SIP in general isn't ready to do. So we went with ESI so we could support home and travel IP phones.

Put a call in to Grandstream, they do have a prog for the phones to reach out and grab their configs by MAC address. Not sure of the license on it, but I have a copy and it works fine. Lots of * scoffing here, but we use it as a feature server (voicemail, IVR) alongside our softswitch and it works like a charm.

to update this-
Grandstream phones can take their programming from any TFTP server. You do however need to correctly format the files. On Grandstream's website is a tool that will let you convert a text file into the correctly formatted binary config file.

Also yeah GXP2000 speakerphone sucks. If you want something bigger/better, try SNOM or AAstra, both make great phones with awesome speakerphones. More expensive per unit though.

Sounds like you need a radio backup for the Lite Pointe for that 1% downtime may be acceptable for data but not voice.

You can configure the switch to use the radio as redundancy.

And when you want to replace the a****k go Samsung with digital phones in the larger site and IP phones in the smaller site.

Update. LitePoint Replaced firmware in Laser, Rock Solid now. Astrik also working finePeople are bring in differnt phones Astra, Cisco, Snom.
Looks like if you want to do a lot of these you clone the drive of one already set up and make a new one and tweak from there.

So you had a port flapping issue with the lite pointe?

I'd be installing a radio backup becuase you may occasionally get problems with the FSO. You can get good carrier grade radios like RAD Airmux for under 5K after all you dont need all that speed for the VOIP side of things and youd probably find the data works ok especially in an emergency.

I have a customer that wanted to go FSO for a similar application I made them install radio first and we are now installing the FSO.
