Is there a way we can get the installer password for making simple programming changes ourselves? It seems silly to pay $100 just to have somebody go in for 5 minutes to change our system to go on night mode at 5:30 instead of 5:00. (Or add a phone to a department, etc.)

Or... is there a way we can go through a different ESI vendor than the one we purchased the equipment from?

I don't know why who ever installed it for you wouldn't give it to you, just remember if you mess something up the are gonna charge you to fix it.I have a customer that has summer and winter hours and they change the auto day/night times .

Just need to make sure I have the correct terminology:

Admin password = can change the name that appears on the extension, change night mode announcements, etc

Installer password = change day/nite start end times, change which extensions ring for which department, etc.

And you are very correct: if I mess it up, it will cost me for them to fix my mistake. However, I'm a computer programmer -- hopefully the phone system wouldn't be too difficult for me. wink

My company services your area and may be able to assist. If you'd like to contact me via PM or e-mail, I'll see what I can do.

you need to talk to your vendor about remote changes... they can do many things remotely and should be able / willing to do it for less money than if they come on site

the phone system isn't too difficult to program ... especially after the five day training course (at a cost of $1,500+-) that we need to attend to become certified

Whenever possible they are willing to do things remotely. However, it's just that the minimum charge is 1/2 hour. So... a simple change (such as modifying the day/night times) is a 1/2 hour charge even though it only takes a minute remotely.

it takes more than a minute ..... they need to process your call, write the work ticket, log in, make the changes, complete the work ticket, bill you, collect the money, deposit it etc.

the bottom line is they are in business to make money and need to earn a fair profit so they can stay in business and be there when you really need them (system down and in need of parts they stock)

there is a cost associated with that and they need to recoup it when they do work for their customers

the fact that you are trained in a different technical area simply means that you could pick it up if you were trained

I may only take a minute to perform the task. But how long did it take to gain the knowlege and skill to be able to complete the task?
