Hey there, I am currently working on a Comdial Exectuech II 2264KSU phone system. For the most part things are working fine except I have 2 sindle-line phone stations that I can not get programmed. I have the manual but for some reason the stinkin system is being stubborn. Is there anyone out there that can explain to me in plain english, the steps to get these phones programmed to use a single line to dial out by pushing 9 to get a dial tone. Thanks for the assistance.

What model single-line phones are you attempting to use? Unless they are Comdial's proprietary single-line phones (6701), there will need to be an analog station adapter installed. This system won't support industry-standard single-line sets without the adapter.

The Model number listed on the phone is 3600-BB-CT-579M

Rev. A 5187

They are Comdial Executech II phones. I just cant seem to get them working again. You used to dial 9 to get a dial tone and then just dial out.

In order for single-line sets to work (as in allowing outgoing calls), the system needs to be configured as a hybrid and not a key system. If this isn't done, then these will be intercom-only stations.

To configure the KSU for hybrid mode, there must be a jumper placed across the black/brown pair on cable J4's block.

My question at this point is do you get internal functionality (as in the ability to place intercom calls) from these phones? If so, then the jumper should solve your problem. Please let us know so we can work from this point. If the phones are just plain dead, the only easy answer I can offer until you can check back is to make sure that the phones are wired with two pairs from the KSU to the phone. Even though they are single-line sets, they still require two pairs. They are simply key sets without any buttons.

If you are going to be doing any programming on this system, it is mandatory that a DSS console be connected at station 10. Without it, if programming is required, you won't be able to do it.

Keep us posted.

Then you definitely need to check and make sure there is a jumper wire connecting the black/brown pair together at the block for KSU cable J4. If you don't have a cable J4, you will need to provide one. Once that's done, you should be all set.

Thanks, so once thats done, can you verify how to go about setting up the phones so they can dial out. I aslo dont see anywhere in the manual how to set it up so that you can dial 9 to get and outgoing line. It doesn't have to be 9, but that was what they used to use.

no programming should be necessary once you set the strap, it should just work. It's been a long time, this is an old system, but if memory serves, that should do it.

Yep, Mark is correct there. The only thing you need to ensure is that only your active lines are in line group 1 for dial 9 access. This is the default condition for all lines, but unless you have 22 lines on the system, dialing 9 will result in dead air by grabbing line 22.

If the active lines and the inactive line ports aren't separated into groups (inactive lines in another group besides group 1), you will have this problem.

Hey thanks again guys for the info, Phone systems are not really my thing, I'm more into the computer networking arena. With your guys' help though I think I might just be able to clear up the last few issues I am having.

Dont lay into me guys but how does that strap work exactly. Do you just run a wire from 27 to 28 and thats that? Is that considered to be the jumper?

Thanks again in advance.
