Hello,
Can anyone tell me how to punch down (110 Block)for a data communication with this system?
We tried the com port to no avail. It programs through station #10, but we would like to set up a PC to communicate with the system.
Does this system require any special software for data communication?

I would wait for one of the Comdial techs or moderators to come in---but in the mean time:

1. If you don't have a manual---get one --click on "manuals" link on this site.
In my manual---2.12.1 gives the diagrams on how to access data Port A (pins 38-41) and how to set up your jack and make a cable for the 25 pin EIA adapter.

2. Use Hyperterminal---and set the baud rates per instructions.

3. The programming is quite different from telephone programming so be prepared to spend some time on this project.

Good Luck

We tried connecting (Both through the RJ11 data ports A & B, and through the punch-down block(They said to use 37-40))per the manual instructions for a G0408, also from the N0408, & DSU II, but had no luck, We don't see any mention of the L0408, nor do we have that specific manual. Thanks for your help, though.

I've been selling Comdial since 1984 and I can't find any reference to an LO408. Check your number, and tell us what phones your using on the system and what color the cabinet is and any other name or number information you can find. There are some Comdial products I never sold so this might be one of them. No reason you shouldn't be able to get in through the com port with a standard line cord and the right 9 pin to RJ adapter.

The L series was short lived (very short) I think it runs the 2200 series Impression phones. It's looks like the J 408 and is gray in color and works on the L cabinets. (L816, L408 etc.)Not sure about the break out's or programming if it's the same or different.

You're right --pins 37-40. Do you mean a GO408 instead of LO408?? If I remember --I did use a DB-9/RJ-11 adapter hooked up to a 4 pin surface jack---then to the pins. You have to make sure your baud rates are set both in the phone system and in hyperterminal, though. Then I think you have to hit "enter" a few times.
If you have Data ports A & B on the side of the cabinet(modular plugs) --then you have a much bigger system--like a 1632 base cabinet. You aren't hooking into pins 37-40 from a 408 expansion unit are you? Make sure you're on the main 66 block and not an expansion block.

I don't know why you'd bother with the pins if you have com ports, they are wired to the same place. If you can't make it work in the com port you have a problem with either the line cord, adapter or the set up on your puter. If, and this is a BIG if, the com port is bad (and I've never seen one go bad)then the pin outs won't work either, they are the same com ports.

That should be a JO-408 or DSUII.
There are 2 com ports on the side and you can use the same db-9 connector as the DXP.
The manual will show the correct wiring from the RJ11 on the DSU to the db-9 connector.
Com-1 should be 9600,N,8,1 you can check this from station 10 programming. You can use Procomm or Hyper-terminal to programm the system.

It is definately an L0408, it has a Tan cabinet w/2 Com ports on the side. The label says Rev. 8 or could it be B?
It is in a lab setting with only 1 phone connected to line #10. We tried using Hyper terminal and Tera Term, setting the port protocols, etc. We just aren't sure if normal pinouts for the 9-pin plug & RJ11 are applicable, or if there is a particular port protocol for this system.
