Got it. Thank you so much for your knowledge. I'm going to proceed as planned - find a good deal on polarity guards and install them myself before shipping the phones. Thank you.

no need to put them on every phone , just set up a test jack with reversed polarity and test each TT phone for dial out with polarity correct and reversed

Before switching to FiOS, Verizon's technicians would often reverse polarity on my telephone line when working troubles. mad

Luckily modern telephone equipment isn't polarity sensitive (but I still check for & compensate for reversals). smile

both customers said they said they tested it on several jacks
Maybe its your phone that is reversed? I recommend you buy a cheap $5 - $10 line polarity tester with red and green leds that you can use at your home. That way you will have a benchmark to work from.

I also recommend that you make a test jig to test all your phones. That way, the polarity sensitive ones can be listed in your description. Let it be a selling tool and describe them as OEM wired!

NO, that's Antique. (Well, not antique, but old, desirable, and collectable, all rolled up in one word that I CANNOT think of.)

Later: The word is...... VINTAGE... like a fine wine! smile

When I was working for a CLEC as a contractor a couple yrs ago, I ran into this issue once with a client who had an older rotary wallmounted phone. I used my Ideal Industries Smart6 banjo/tester to confirm the line polarity was reversed. So I pulled the phone off the wall and corrected the polarity in the jack. Fixed the issue. Previous techs hadn't been able to fix this for the client. Other jacks had been wired correctly. It was an apartment building.

I found most of the time the LEC didn't bother to install the CLEC's lines with correct polarity, whether it was in the LEC's side of the NID or at the CO.

Was reverse polarity the reason the bells would ding in step with dialing numbers on a rotary phone?
