Anyone else have issues with latest revision? Did a search and read in a forum it's not compatible with Norton antivirus, but to uninstall Spysweeper will cause other problems?

It takes my 'puter 15 mins at startup to load program, I can see it in task manager hogging memory. Half the time it comes up with the start window 'Spysweeper you have 2 alerts" when I click to close it turns from normal green to blue and freezes. Only way out is to power down via button. It's hit or miss whether it works the next time at start up or not. I'm perty sure Webroot knows about this and emailed about it with no answer.
Have any of u comp wizzes run into this?

I'm running out of names(not good) to call my computer.... frown

There have been lots of complaints about Spysweeper being a resource hog. I tried it a few years ago and experienced the same issues so away it went. I would first try to uninstall it and delete the webroot folder from the program files directory after you uninstall it to make sure theres no leftover files. Delete all of your temp files and then reinstall it. You also need to clean up your startup items if your computer is always taking so long to boot. After you uninstall go through a couple of reboots and take note of the boot time to see if it was indeed spysweeper that was causing the slowdown. I only use Malwarebytes and Superantispyware and I dont have any problems or complaints on either of those.

On your next boot check to see if Norton is running DOSCAN.exe. It is another startup CPU / memory hog. I run Malwarebytes and Spybot Search and Destroy.

Remove doscan

Spybot

I run AVG free

Usually have to use the Norton removal tool , since it usually mucks up more than it helps.

x2 on jimmyv's Spybot S&D suggestion and Malwarebytes , as they are two of the best programs out there for spyware and malware.

Same as Tony... I use AVG on every customer's computer. I also like Ad-Aware, have not had the chance to try some of the others out there.

I was running AVG Free on XP with IE 7. IE 8 loaded and that was the end of that. The new one didn't work, tried the 'buy it' version and that didn't work and all I got from support is try this, try that, nothing helped and then I guess they didn't have any ideas because I couldn't even get a T/S response. Went to my favorite Computer guy and he said use 'Panda'. IT WORKS GREAT, catches stuff in the background, not noticeably slower. Auto updates every day, I can look at reports quickly and delete them. I keep forgetting what the name of the most common detected is and asking if I am getting it from E-bay. I occasionally run spy bot and there is usually nothing to catch. John C.

John, I think that Panda is just as good as AVG. Never had issues with either... just happen to use AVG more and it's a habit. Never had any issues with AVG and IE8... just IE8 in and of its self!

smile

Thank you all very much for the suggestions and links smile

I will try to uninstall SS and look at the doscan and post an update.

If I have the latest Norton Antivirus do I really need any kind of spyware/malware program?

Thank's again!

I personally try to stay away from Norton and McAfee...in my experience they just cause more problems then they are worth. The term bloatware comes to mind. It seems that they hog up a lot of resources, and block things that should be open.
Just my two cents.

The sad reality is yes. Each does its part and it beats the heck out of trying to recover from a threat.
