What model is that butt set on the right? never seen one like that.

My first buttset was one of those rubber rotary Beco jobs, indestructible but not very useful with no DTMF for anything other than checking for dialtone.

Been using the same TS22 for the last 17 years now...

Fluke TS52 Pro.
Notable features are:

Measures line voltage, current draw, CID, Digit grabber, visual ANAC, data safe including dsl filtering.

I remember these being called click sets due to the fact they did not have a resistor across the rec. element so when you where up a pole and did not have it to your ear you would hear a loud click when you clipped in the leads to let you know there was voltage present may have to do it twice though to get the capacitance off the line . I also have one I used way back that is rubber with a small rotary dial that had little nubs so you could dial it with yout finger nail .

Thats a nice picture by skip555. It brings back memories seeing the open wire on the pin. When I started with the Bell System in Vermont in 1974 there was alot of open wire in service. I used a dial butt set every day. It was blue and hard plastic. Still have one. In fact I did an install in West Rupert Vt one day and removed a hand crank black box with a old no dial set attached to it. Still have that too.

That is really interesting reading on this Butt set, I started with NWBell in 1972 and also used the same butt set many times on open wire. Showing my age I am.
