Nahhh. Don't you dare screw with the ring! It's the tapers fault! Make them fill around the box or ring until it's flush.
After rocking I walk around with a pencil and circle every box that is cut out too big so the plate won't cover and the ones that stick out too far. I write FILL! in BIG letters next to each.
Just goes to show WHY you need to be on the job every day to check other trades work that affects yours.
