I can't help you with question #1. I am not very familiar with that stuff, so you'll need to wait for one of the other Vodavi folks to chime in. Not very many people even reference this feature of the voice mail because it's really of no use. Again, the hold files in the Pathfinder have nothing to do with music on hold. I do understand your desire to have daily message changes, but the files in the Pathfinder aren't what you are looking for in order to accomplish this.

As for the fees being charged by your current vendor, I really don't know what to say. You may want to contact Vodavi directly and seek another opinion from a different vendor. They will be able to help you locate someone in your area at www.vodavi.com.

As for the Hyperterminal issues, there is no Vodavi logo given to enter the programming mode. We are not permitted to go any further with this matter as support here is limited to user-level features only.

Hi Ed

Let me describe what I ideally want our phone system do:

a) outside caller calls our number 201-489-0964 and chooses extension 111
b) in Pathfinder Ext.111 is set to Supervised Transfer with hold enabled;
c) ext.111 is busy
d) the caller is asked to 1)leave a message 2)hold
e) the caller chooses to hold
f) the callser listens to a message that changes
every day

I should be able to change the hold message (VOX file) using a VB script. If Pathfinder/Vodavi didn't intend to make it flexible for low-budget companies like ours, what's the point in having this feature?

Personally I don't like MOH. I'd rather be kept in void or presented with clicks. Your mileage may vary.

I'd appreciate your kind help.

Thanks
Murthy

IMHO,you need on site help from a VODAVI tech.

Do you understand your fixing to modify you system for better or worse?

Your system is important to your business, is it not ?

Hi TJ

My provider has charged us for changing greetings! Much of that info is in the public domain. I made a search at altavista.com for "vodavi xts user guide" and there were so many links. Do you recommend a highly trained card-carrying CWA member to come on site to record a greeting and charge us for 3 hours of work?

By placing a few VOX files on the Pathfinder I am not going break the system!!

Thanks
Murthy
ps: Don't get me wrong about the reference to CWA. I contributed to their ad in Washington Post. :-)

Murthy,
Please understand you're talking to people who make their living doing the very thing your complaining about. The majority of which are not members of any union.

As has been said, the purpose of the board is to assist end users with typical end user questions. It is not to help someone learn how to program their phone system.

I would caution you against making changes to the Pathfinder using scripts or other modifications not covered by the manufacturer. You may inadvertently cause more issues than you care too. You may also render your Pathfinder useless and the only fix may be to reinstall all of the software.

If you own the system and wish to take the risks involved, after you've been warned by four different factory trained technicians, then I wish you luck. However, this board will not be able to give you assistance.

Thank you for your understanding.

Thanks Ed, Larry, Oogie and TJ.

I fixed my problem. The filenames AAHOLD.0 thru AAHOLD.9 had to be in caps.
and the directory has to be <drive>\pathfinder\vox
where <drive> is c:, d:, etc. The files have to be VOX. I used an mp3 to vox converter with phone quality and 320 bit rate. Apparently, there is no limit on the size of the files. The system will play the file, for however long the file is, and present the options.

It works great!

Larry: your remarks are well taken. The CWA's I work with don't know about operating systems and file name conventions, in my humble opinion.

Thanks & Regards

Murthy, as fewer and fewer technicians at all levels deal with the command line, you will find this to be quite common. I struggle with my employees making mods to a number of voice mail systems that run solely on DOS.

DOS file conventions and commands are completely alien to them.

Just ask a telephone or computer tech "what is copy con"?

If you look at the specifications for the Pathfinder software you will notice that it shouldn't be installed on Windows ME because it won't be supported.
