I've run into an issue with the "No Ring" setting on a PhDN button. I have a Multiple Call Group(MCG) with a PhDN in it. This PhDN is essentially a third DN on this phone that is set to "No Ring" so that a person in the MCG can pick up the line, but not be harassed with a ring each time a call comes in since they aren't the primary person who answers the line, just a backup person.

Is this normal behavior or one of those strange glitches that needs to be cleared up by a power on/off?

As always, thanks in advance.

Try set it to immediate ring but set it to an external tone pitch to one of the ring pitches that is silent, like 1 or 2 or something.

I've tried those tones and I don't have a silent one available. 1 is the same as the internal tone (long beep, pause, long beep, pause). 2 is a faster version of the same thing.

If you don't what the PhDN to ring, but still be a member of an MCG, do not assign ownership to the PhDN. Only owner's of PhDN's will ring in a MCG

I tried removing the owner DN from the PhDN. The button mapped to that PhDN stopped flashing after that.

I have separate PhDNs for each station in the MCG if that helps.

I thought about this this morning, if you have room on the targeted set, you can program the DID to a GCO. Add the GCO to the set and the ringing options will be valid under key programming, such as No Ring, Immd Ring and delay options.
Remove the PhDN from the MCG.

What's a GCO? I've looked through the help files but I can't find a definition of it. It's always listed with CO lines. Is it a Group CO line or something like that?

I was thinking along the same line as red ron only using pooled line key. Assign the DID to a pooled line key and assign that PL key on the phone and set it for no ring. You can still have the MCG as the destination of the DID.

I have GCO keys to simulate CO line appearances with a PRI. First call GCO index 1, second to 2, etc.

GCO = Group Central Office
Use GCO's when a specific DID 2300 needs a appearance on button assignments, such as a answering position. Under Prg 309 (Trunks > DID) assign the DID to a GCO, will say it is 1.

Station > Key Assignments (Prg 205)
On the button(s) desired, program the button to be GCO1. On the first button assigned as GCO1 select Index One. On the second button, assign GCO1, Index Two, same for third but it will be Index Four and so forth. Now we have on the set will say three appearances of 2300-1, 2300-2, 2300-3. The DID will alert the PDN, when answered it will jump to GCO1 Index One, second call will jump to Index Two, and so forth.

Addressing DID's assigned to Pool Keys as RRino suggests. I am not very fond of this idea as this might create service issues later, such as the next Tech that comes through the door not really knowing the site application.

When the Pool Key is assigned at the CG level and the Pool Key is assigned to a Station(s) all DID's will ring causing an unattended person to answer the wrong DID. Having the Pool Key programmed at the DID level can help in solving this issue, but than again the unknowing Tech. When DID's are programmed at the DID level, there is still room for error, but easy to fix if using GCO.

GCO's can be assigned to DID, T1 DID, PRI DID, SIP DID.
