We currently are using a DK424 (with the latest processor and firmware) with a IVP8 voicemail. We are transitioning to an asterisk based system and are in the final stages of testing. We are ready to forward some user's calls from the DK424 to the new Asterisk based system. I expected it to be an easy task, but just setting a call forward always at that user's phone to their new DID on the Asterisk system. However, it appears you can only forward to internal extensions.

I don't think the call forward external function will work since all our calls are an internal transfer from the receptionist.

I also tried setting up a speed dial on the receptionist's DSS (801 then the 7 digit phone number), but it always drops the call when the receptionist disconnects, or it just goes to recall and still rings on the receptionist's phone.

I have all the programming guides for the system, but I am not familiar with it enough to figure out how to accomplish this. We do not have any telecom vendors in our area that are proficient using these phone systems which is alot of the reason we are switching to the Asterisk based system.

Thanks in advance,
Joe

On a DK, call forward external does not apply to internal calls or transferred calls.

I just re-read my post, and I am not sure if I was clear what I am trying accomplish.

Currently all of our incoming calls come from 1 phone number, the receptionist answers then transfers the calls to the appropriate extension.

I would like to end up with the calls going to the user's new DID on the asterisk system. There are two ways I can see to accomplish this:

Have the receptionist transfer the phone call to the new DID on the Asterisk system.

Or, have the receptionist transfer the call to the Strata extension (eg. 205) then have that extension forwarded to the new external Asterisk DID.

It doesn't look like there is any way to do that at the phone with the DK424. Is there any way I can program the receptionist's DSS to do a 1 or 2 button transfer to the new Asterisk DID?

Thanks

It's not going to be a transfer it's going to be a conference.
How is the Asstrick connected to the Toshiba? T1 to T1 or analog ports?

We tried this exact thing and couldn't get it to work. We could forward external DNIS calls but not internal ext. to ext. calls.

Thanks for the responses. The DK424 has a PRI and 2 POTS lines (for backup). The asterisk system has SIP trunks. The two systems are not connected together.

I was hoping I was missing a simple solution, but it is starting to look like it isn't doable with the Dk424. I guess worst case we will just have to cut over to the Asterisk system completely. I am just hesistant to because we are using a custom developed soft phone with it and it integrates heavily with our database. I was really hoping to do a larger scale test with several of our users prior to a full roll out.

Thanks

The only way I see is if you have three wat calling on your CO's and do a hook flash , dial external number , hangup . I don't think it is poosible with the PRI.

If they have DID's on the Toshiba there is a way to forward externally if the DID only rings 1 phone. It explains this in the DK series user guide.

You could use a couple of sip adapters and hook them to analog ports on the Toshiba. Then program the Asterisk system to use them as sip trunks.

The receptionist would then just transfer to the extension of the adapters and then dial the correct extension in Asterisk. Long way around, but it would work

This will automatically forward the calls to the users alternate phone number. I know it won't allow the receptionist do a manual transfer but it's the only way I can think of.

Prog. 71 1-3 for the DNIS/DID address you wish to forward set the destination to #300(network table)

Prog. 72 set network table 300 to 9(assuming this is your line access digit)+phone number.

Repeat for each DNIS/DID address using network table 300 thru 3XX based on your needs.
