We have a new building that is going to be a branch office, of sorts. We currenly have a Strata XIIe System.

We are looking at a Toshiba DK424 system configured 4x8 with Caller ID for this new building.

I have been asked if this system allows us to do some of the following things:

1. Allows our in-house software be able to interract with the incoming calls, such as a call comes in, is directed to XX user, and when the call hits the phone, will interact with our software (SQL based), to display information, such as all open orders.

2. Ability for when a voice mail is created, to send an email to the user to let them know they have a voice mail.

3. Can produce reports of who called, when, from what number, who they called, which extension gets called the most.

4. Can interact with Cell Phones/Cordless phones.

Or do all of these things require having an IP type system?

FYI - Anyone in the Northwest Arkansas area that would like to discuss further, please email me. I see someone here from around Ft. Smith, that's not too far away. Plus, if there are any Wichita Toshiba techs, please, email me. We have an issue at the Wichita branch as well.

A few things while you are waiting for one of the pros to chime in.
a 424 is really overkill for a 4x8 configuration a 40i might better suit your needs.
A large number of the questions you are asking about are functions that are dictated by, and controlled by, the voicemail that you are using.
I am going to strongly suggest that you get a few good local vendors in and speak with them about your needs.
A 424 cabinet with no voice mail card, no single line card, and no call accounting software package will do almost none of the things that you are asking for.
Properly installed and configured by a Toshiba pro with the right voice mail and the right call accounting package, it would do everything that you ask for.

That is good input! I am not a phone specialist, in fact, I am more of the Network Server Administrator, and the phone duties have started to fall in my realm.

I have been doing IP Telephony research, but that is also overkill for what we are trying to accomplish.

Thank you!

As far as Toshiba is concerned, you will need the CTX100 with an iES16 voicemail. Make sure it comes with a BSIS Card for your SMDR Output to a call accounting package. The 424 won't cut the newer features especially Unified Messaging. Also this system will provide the expandability for IP connection to your other offices. If you have more questions, let me know. You will want to contact a local Toshiba dealer. Good Luck.

Babywhiz, the CTX/CIX can do all the things you listed. Get in touch with a good Toshiba dealer in your area and get as much info as possible so that you can decide for yourself if the system will work for you.

I told you to wait for the pros smile . I was unaware that the 424 could not handle unified messaging.
In the situation that you are in, with the features that you want, buying a cheap systenm on E-Bay and trying to set it up yourself would be a huge waste of time and, in the long run, money.
Get some good vendors in. Do not be afraid to go away from Toshiba. A few of the brands that you might want to look at in addition to the Toshiba: TELRAD, ESI, Panasonic, Samsung, Intertel, Norstar, Comdial, NEC, there are about 12-15 others....

The toshiba will do all that you ask but not the 424. You need the NEW CIX or the proven CTX100.
You are asking for is very expensive options.

If you are a network guy you should be looking at MITEL IP solutions. A mitel sx-200ICP cx controller. Everything you are asking for is built right in to the system. The price will only be slightly more, with all the options you are asking for.
The Mitel is an actual PBX not a Key system and is so much more stable than any of the above mentioned.
The growth options are endless. You can have YOUR Assistant running on your PC with screen pops. with softphones or teleworkers you can work anywhere in the world. and be an intercom call away.

I would stay clear of the Toshiba CIX, only because it is a new product and I was installing when toshiba first released there CTX. Some weeks they would have 3 different software releases to fix minor problems that popped up.
You would upgrade only to cause other problems.
It is stable now but we pissed off alot of customers.

Having a processor that is upgradable when new features or flaws are found is a good thing. To upgrade a Toshiba CTX all you need is 2 smart media cards, a certified Toshiba tech and 30 minutes of no phone calls. All products will have problems its how the problems are solved that make the better than others.
