POSSIBLY, because the system is almost 30 years old, and needs to be put out of it's misery???
PROBABLY, because you have no dial tone on trunk #2.

Got to agree w/ 55'er.

Sx20s are rapidly reaching their end-of-life criteria. Time to add up what the customer has spent on service calls and parts off of eaybay (or where-ever) and explain the potential ROI in ceasing the constant service calls.

In addition, they get a NEW, RELIABLE, and fully integrated system with embedded voicemail.

Also, after they turn down the proposal, every time the system smokes, you can say, "Told ya so!"

Guys, read between the lines, I believe you are talking to the owner. Be gentle.
But, the suggestions are valid, the last new SX 20 stuff was made about 1990. Everything out there has been rebuilt/repaired so many times, rubber bands and silicon glue are legitimate repair parts! John C.

Sorry, didn't mean to be cruel... but sx20s are fading fast.

I put together 20's on a regular basis because there is still a market for them. I can put one together, test it 8 ways from Sunday, wheel it on a cart to the other side of the building, plug it in, and it may or may not work. If one is going to insist on keeping a 20, one will have to realize that service calls and frequent parts purchases will have to be a good portion of your operating budget. Having said that, the alarm is a "Trunk no release" alarm for trunk 2. That indicates a probable bad trunk module on the misc. card. We don't have any trunk modules and haven't had for quite a while. Finding a trunk module may be difficult because repair vendors are reluctant to work on them and provide warranty (they come back frequently for warranty service).

Hmmmm, maybe it's time to part out some old 20's and test the trunk modules! It's been a while since I've needed any 20 parts, but it seems to me that the chassis power supplies were the 'soft spot'. Turn it off to change out a station card and replace the chassis too!. I went so far as to design some up-to-date p/s's. Actually worked fine, but I decided I didn't want to get involved in 'BETA' tests and possible litigation with Mitel! Sometimes, discretion is the better part of valor!. John C.

Why don't all of you REALLY express what you think of the SX-20? LOL

A 12 20 alarm means that trunk 02 is not returning a disconnect signal when the Generic is expecting it. I have a client that was in a little town and the telco kept changing the trunks from ground start to loop start for no apparent reason. The client was getting trunk alarms all the time.

I would first check the trunk programming and make sure nothing has changed. Next, check the CO Trunk from the telco and see if it is still what it is supposed to be (ground or loop start). Next, if the trunk is correct, then change out the CO trunk module. If that does not correct it, change out the Misc card.

I repair those power supplies all the time. The capacitors are usually dry and need replaced. Occasionally, a pass transistor goes bad or, if the system took a lightning hit, some diodes will fail. For all that it is and is not, those old 20s still work.

Judging by your name RCAMAN ,You installed 20's in RCA's Glory days, I like the old things just replaced one today with another,They are like a Timex watch ,They take a lickin and keep a tickin.

I worked for RCA in the 60s and 70s. I installed Stepper and Crossbar and installed the first RCA totally electronic EPABX. As I was starting my own business, RCA switched from the CNC EPABX to Mitels. I worked for a small company and got all my Mitel schooling and opened my own business.

The 5, 10 and 20 systems work for what they are. If you learn the quarks of the 20, it can work for a long time.
