Customer has a Polycom 550d/550d conference phone unit. It works fine on a Meridian 824 DR5.1 port, but when they try to use the unit at a second location with a MICS (older software-not sure what release ) it won't work. I took the unit to a different site with a MICS 2.0--wouldn't work there either. Seems the unit is not compatible with any MICS system. Any tricks out there?

There are different versions of Polycom 550D. It must be branded with Nortel logo. It works on all Norstar systems. There are no tricks.

What Bob is trying to say is:

1)The older 550D (for Nortel) he has currently works perfectly on an 824 DR5 digital port. It is the older style 550D with the adapter. It takes a digital port off of the 824 into the converter and from the converter to the Polycom unit. Again this works fine with the 824.

2)He has taken this very same unit and tried to connect it to a MICS at another location. It will not work on the digital port of a MICS. After connecting it to the MICS, it tries to come up. The lights flash and it emits some tones from the Polycom. He has checked the programming on the MICS and everything is correct. However, when he goes into maintanence it shows the port as disabled.

3) He has taken the Polycom unit to a second site with another MICS just to rule out the first MICS as being the culprit. The exact same scenerio is happening on both MICS units. It will not work. Again, programming has been checked and verified at both MICS locations. The Polycom unit works great on an 824, just no go on a MICS so far.

I understand it is not easy but if you can go back to 824 and see or unit still working there. maybe somethink happened during relocation? I would check out polarity on the port as well. Who knows.

I did take the unit back to the 824---worked fine there--and yes--tried changing polarity on the second MICS--no luck with that either.

Check your port with a working Norstar set and make sure the port is ok at the MICS

I have tried the Polycom on 2 different MICS--one had a working 7208-the other had a working 7310 on the ports I tried--I'm trying to contact Polycom for their input.

I received an email back from Polycom today about compatibility. Here it is in case anyone might run into the same issue.

Using theSoundStation Premier 500D/550D Meridian with a Nortel Norstar PBX

The SoundStation Premier 500D/550D Meridian is not compatible with Nortel Norstar Switches. Some indicators that a customer is dealing with a Norstar switch are:

Modular ICS
MICS
Compact ICS
CICS
7000 Series phones
Some Nortel Norstar PBX boxes have the word Meridian on them, however if the one of the above items are being used with the PBX, it is indeed a Norstar PBX Switch.

There is a Nortel branded SoundStation available through Nortel that works on Norstar PBX's
