Hey all, I need an answer fairly quick. I am going to upgrade a MICS from 4.1 to 6.1

Customer has a PRI. Will I lose all programming? I tried to obtain the enabler code from KRS but when I gave them the sys ID they could not find it for some reason.

I have been reading up on the upgrade and I swear I have also just been able to power down, pull the old, and insert the new. I swear I have done this to non-PRI systems but its been awhile.

Please advise,

-MO

I did a 4.0 to 6.1mr almost 2 years ago in prep for a nam to cp change. Had everything and did everything by the book. Had to reprogram the entire switch. 100 number DID, 75 sets, local and FTS trunks. No big deal since I installed and maintained it. Had very good programming sheets!! Be prepared. Can't comment on the PRI.

It should be plug and play.

Be aware there are PRI issues with 1st rev of 6.1. Use 6.1MR or go all the way to 7.0. If going to 7.0 you must load 6.1 first though.

Aslo be aware that line/target line numbering will change.

CAUTION: You MUST upgrade your voice mail first.

on the NAM side of things you said it has to be upgraded.

I thought any fiber NAM would work with any MICS?

Know where I can find a compatability chart? Also, how do I know what version the NAM is?

Thanks,

-MO

Not all fibre NAMs are compatible. I think the first fibre NMAs were version 3.0. NAM must be 4.1 to work with MICS 6.1 or higher.

Compatibilty... check the FAQ.

what are the pri issues cause I upgraded a 4.0 to a 6.1. I dont have pri codes so i MUST KEEP SYSTEM PROGRAMMING so I had to remain at 6.1... currently I have no inbound or out bound carriers says everything is A o.k on their end. Any solutions to this would be a great help.

6.1 issues from the tech bulletin

- call park timer on digital trunks.
- T series phones locking up and showing park prefix number on the display (11111111111)
- high number of dropped calls on digital trunks
- Trouble with PRI/T1 trunks from DMS 10 switches

Hi Marlon,

If you go straight to 6.1 from 4.1 without using the upgrade tool, you WILL lose your programming. With the upgrade tool, most of the configuration survives (most of the time). Nothing is guaranteed.

Your biggest issue is the PRI enabler. On most of these upgrades that I have done, the MICS Sys ID changes through the course of the upgrade. I then move the keycode from one system (Sys ID) to the other through KRS. If they don't see your Sys ID, you may have to produce some proof that the customer is entitled to the keycode. It will help if you are the "distributer of record", and if you sold the equipment (NEW from Nortel) originally.

As for the NAM, you can check your software version by logging in through F983, then press "9".

Good Luck!!!

Marty, I've done 4.1 to 6.1 plug and play. You suprised me so I confirmed it is in the manual too. It's pre 4.0 and going to 7.0 that you need the upgrade tool.

That being said with every upgrade there is the possiblity of losing your data.

Got it, I thought I had done a plug and play as well from 4.1 to 6.1 but like you guys say "no guarantee".

Marty, you must have got my message, no I was not the dealer that sold the system to this customer. Nortel was not able to verify sys id with these guys. This customer is now trying to get a hold of the guys that sold them the system six years ago.

With all that, it is out of my hands until they get everything ironed out.

You guys provide good information time and time again here in the Nortel forum.

Thanks,
-MO
