I've been informed by our distributor that there are no longer any cordless multi-line phones available for use with the KX-TA624. Is this true?

We have an existing customer with a 624 that we installed years ago. It is in pristine condition and doesn't need to be upgraded or replaced in this residence. They just want to upgrade from the existing KX-T7030 phones to 7731s and two cordless sets. Any suggestions?

Yea it's true. The latest multi line cordless to work on that was the KX-TD7896 but it was discontinued recently. You'll have to find them online.

Even the 824 system (624's replacement) only supported the 7896 as the latest model. I believe they're phasing that out and pushing the TDA50, which works with all current cordless DECT phones.

Why does the cordless have ro be multi line. Once on an extension it can answer any line and call out on all the lines too

It's a residence and they like the comfort of seeing all of the lines on the cordless, just like the wired phones. It's actually quite common in residential applications here. Anything more complex than pressing the hold button is not an option.
