Hello,
We have an Infostar VX2 voice mail system with a 30 hour disk. We've got about 70 mailboxes and nobody has more than 15 messages and most have less than 5.
However, the disk space free percentage keeps going down and I've defragged, scandisk and tried the "create free space option" to no avail. According to DOS, almost half the hard drive is free.
Anyone know what is causing this problem or how to fix it?
Thanks,

are you using a bunch of ccr boxes? custom call routing. they take up recording space.

No, we don't have a bunch of CCR boxes. I did delete 4 that were no longer used, but it didn't result any any noticeable change in storage space.
I did ask everyone to delete all their saved messages, which resulted in a gain of 1%.
So, still at a lost of what is using up all the time on the disk.

Your voice mail system has not completely deleted all messages. The problem may be a corrupt BTR file. Try this as a quick fix…… from the run dialogic screen (no menu displayed, just square boxes on the top) Press the F3 key (system clean up) and hit Y, Enter, Enter. After the clean up has completed, system hours should be higher. If this procedure does not fix the problem, then you’ll probably need to call a service tech.

I have had systems not delete message files after the user deleted the message. Check how long messages are kept until they are automatically deleted. Shut the system down and go to the C:\mailbox\btr directory. Each mailbox has a directory here. Go to each one and delete any files that have 0 bytes and any files have a numeric three digit extension (like yhf34829.452)that is older than the message retension time. Be careful not to delete any files with letters in the extension (like NAME.BTR). Bring the system back up and press f3 and enter twice. This should clear this issue.
It is better to have and not need, than to need and not have!

what is the software version? some of these voicemails kept a log file, so if it is 5.0 or earlier software version, then that is your problem. you can upgrade to 7.5 and never have this issue, but you will need at least 16 meg of memory to do so and a dongle swap, that I can help you with. if you know about DOS, take down the voicemail to DOS and look for a log file in C:\MAIL or in C:\mail\utility you are looking for a file that is a lot larger then the rest. that is the file that ate up your space on the drive. contact me if you need any other help and before you delete the file just to make sure. send me a private message before you delete things with the names of the largest files you found and I will tell you which one to be deleted.
Executone super tech.

I have had the same problem. It's been a while since I have worked on the VMS but try this; Go into programming through shutdown, F4 F7 escape yes. You want to get to the shutdown menu. Then go to Utilities and check the reports area. Sometime the option to retain all information is yes. You want to change this to no. Then exit, exit , Control-c, yes and reset.
