Upon my recommendation my company will purchase a Samsung IDCS 100, being new to Samsung (experienced w/Nortel & Fujitsu) I will not be using the IP part as copper is good enough and we don't have the infrastructure for VOIP nor the need. Hence my question what is the major difference between release 1 and 2. I don't want to purchase 1 if it will soon be outdated nor do I want to buy 2 if the only benefit is to add Office serv. Can release 1 be upgraded at a later date or is a hardware update more than a patch or file? Lastly is Office serv only useable with a server as I would only be interested in Office serv call.

Both rel 1 & rel 2 are great products. The rel 1 can be upgraged later but it is less expensive to get rel 2 up front. You mention having copper, the rel 2 is not about connecting the line side to the internet. With the rel 2 you will have IP phones that you can move around by pluging them into your LAN. You can also put them in remote locations as long as the location has high speed connection to the internet. Software upgrades can be done quickly without waiting for new eproms as with the rel 1

CMDL is 100% correct. With the release 2 the after sale support would be minimal if you installed IP phones. Move a person, move the phone. You can run your pc thru the phone or install 2 network connections 1 for phone 1 for pc. If you want future enhancements to the system go with the rel 2. Be sure to explain to the sales person your daily habits and where you expect to be regarding phones in a year also the 7200 might be a better option if you plan to grow. Both have T1, CTI applications, voicemail, TDM phones, wireless, analog and loop start telco abilities. Key is get a good dealer to insure a good install and after support. Look for a dealer in your area and ask for ref to call.
