First, I have a Gateway PC, its OK bout 4 years old, I want to add a second hd to it. I understand about the cable hookup and mounting, but how is it setup it XP? Does the hd come with a setup disk and does it format under windows automatically....
Second, I have about 200 cd's, I dont need to put them all on the 2nd hd but I want to put atleast 50 -100. Is there a way to calculate how much space a regular CD uses?

If your using the HD as a second drive you have to make one a master and one a slave. Once you do this you can just format it under windows xp. As far as cd's if they're music just use windows media player to copy them to the HD it'll convert them to media file for you. If it's a data cd just select the drive right click and copy, open your new drive right click and paste. Hope this helps a little. ------------------ NextWave Communication Technologies

A CD converted into MP3's are between 70 and 80 megs a each. or about 13 albums per gig. a 100 gig hard drive would fit about 1300 albums.

Windows media file is about a 10th of the size of a mp3. just food for thought.

Also be aware that your BIOS may not fully support today's extra large drives like 200GB for example.
