Just installed a KX-TA824 last night. It was replacing a KX-T61610 so everything was pre-wired. Thought this woud be an easy switch with just some light programming.
No such luck! Problem is that when the DSS buttons are programmed on the KX-T7030 phones, several of the DSS buttons light up until the call is answered.
The system has extensions X101 to X112 plus X116. The only DSS extension buttons that work right are X101, X103, X106, and X107. This is happening on all extensions. In other word, any DSS button on any phone will light up on an incoming call if that button is assigned to X102, X104, X105, X108, X109, X110, X116.
I have disconnected all extension but X101 from the PBX and still get the same problem. If I clear all of the DSS buttons, they do not light up with an incoming call. If I flip X103 and X104 buttons the problem follows the X104 assignment.
I was hoping to get this up and running this weekend, but my suppliers tech is out until Monday. Any help would be appreciated.
Thx

Check, or uncheck, DSS Lamp mode. It's program 112. That should make all of your DSS lamps behave.

Did you do a program 99 system clear before programming?

I did use 999 when I first started it up, but will go thru all of that again.
I also examined 112 to make sure it was enabled, but I will toggle and test it.

I just tried 999 once again with no change in the problem. I also toggled 112 to disable, then tested; toggled to enable, tested. No improvement.
I reset all of the DSS buttons on X101, disconnected all extensions except for X101, switched the system off, then on, then did a full reset using the 2 switches in the case. Without the DSS buttons programmed on X101, they do not light up with an incoming call.
I then programmed X101's DSS buttons for X101, X102, X103, X104. They all light up with an incoming call. That is a little differnt than before but still not right.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Put in a different system :-)
I got around to checking it and RTFM. 112 keeps the DSS from blinking on CF/DND per 1.1.70 of the OM. Since the extension is "busy" on incoming calls if it rings, you get a red light. I never noticed it before because we don't usually ring all phones or set up DSS buttons in our 824 applications. For fun, set 112 to enable, go to a phone and on the intercom press FWD 4#. You'll see what 112 does.
The solid red on incoming calls must be a feature, not a bug. It doesn't do that on my TAW or TDA.

RTMF - read the manual first? Actually have read every reference to DDS in the manuals and on this site with no luck (HRTMF?). That's when I turn to the experts.
Hard to believe that it is a feature. I've installed and programmed 1 KX-TA308, 4 or 5 KT-TA61610's, and a KX-TD816 and never seen this. The DDS/BLF is really useful in a home to see who is doing what on the system. I use it all the time. BTW, what happens on a DDS console with incoming calls? Does every extension light up with an incoming call (assuming ringing is enabled at the extensions)?
I am looking at 9.1.111 "Proprietary Telephones - KX-T7700 Series Incoming Lamp Control" in the Programming Manual right now to see if that has any helpful options.
I will try FWD and DND. Will also try delayed ring on an extension. Will seach for more "Lamp Control" references.
Unfortunately your jest "Put in a different system" may be all to true. I'm thinking about reinstalling the old 616 -- don't like going backwards!
Carl, thanks for the leads. I'll report back what I find out.
Chris

I did my testing with 7700 series phones. Don't waste time on that part.

Can you plug phones directly into the ksu with line cords and test?? You might have a modular plug on your station wiring that is shorted. Shorted mod plugs can do all sorts of things. I dont think it is a programming issue. I have installed many of these without these kind of issues. You might have a bad KSU.
