I can't get an SLT to acquire an available line automatically by dialing 9. Does this feature not work for SLT's? I have a fax machine that needs to be able to select any available line to dial out. I have it set to send calls coming in on CO3 to the fax machine but I don't want the fax to HOT Line to CO3 on outgoing calls because it is the first line that is selected when any other ext. presses 9 and is therefore busy a lot of the time. Any Ideas?
Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
Dr.J

It sounds to me like the extension port your fax is using is set up to grab a line using the system's pickup dial feature to ensure that it always grabs line 3.

You will need a handset (or monitor function) on your fax. If you don't have this, then you will need a basic "home" single-line telephone set that is plugged into the fax jack to change this.

Lift the handset of the fax, turn on the monitor speaker of the fax, or lift the handset of the "home" phone. VERY quickly, dial 740#. If you hear a single beep, then your problem is solved and you can begin dialing 9 for outward fax calls to grab any line.

If you hear two beeps, then that is not the problem and we will have to dig deeper.

Either way, please let us know. We need to know if what we tell people to do actually works so we have better information next time.

I hate to resurrect an exceptionally old post... but since I'm having the same issue with SLTs on my KX-TA824, I'm going to give this a whirl tonight and see what's up.
