Pretty much each time I check back on this board there is another thread or two about the TA824. What a piece of crap Panasonic put out there.

No, it's an "if it would just" system. Included in the price of the box is a single channel DISA, CID to extensions, and CO VM monitoring.
If Panasonic had just given it Ring groups, 24 lit button sets, and better VM features and cell stations, it would have been a great box. Or conversely, if they had incuded free extension CID, free DISA, and CO VM monitoring on the TDA-50g it would be a great system.
Two different markets. Unfortunately, the 824's limits doom it for any serious application, but it works fine in places like restaurants and small businesses that use CO voice mail.

I agree with Carl, I have a few TES824 installed(more or less the same as the Ta) and they are inexpensive and do what they say they will. the biggest problem is people installing them not knowing the limits of the system.
The problem here is not a huge one, and the customer will not even notice it after a while.
A person self installing one of these I do not blame for getting caught out, but someone selling this equipment without knowing what it can and can't do, should pay to put in something that will do it...

@Alvaphonepro - Figured out that 1 out of 12 extensions does have some kind of short. Have to check a 300' run that goes underground . . . praying the problem is at a terminator block.
@Carl - the feature manual (FM) pg 21 1.1.9 says . . . "a busy extension (i.e., an extension that is ringing or having a conversation), . . . so you're right it appears to be a feature. Tried FWD, DND, Delayed Ring all worked as expected given FM explaination.
After clearing all of the memory I started to add KX-T7030 phones to the system. First extension, X101, each DDS would light up with an incoming call per the FM.
The moment I programmed one button at a station, say x103, the DDS buttons on the other stations (X101, X102) representing X103 ceased to light when a CO rings but operated just like my old 616 (ie light on transfer, intercom, off-hook but not on incoming CO ring). Great . . . that is what I need!
Extension with SLT, fax, KX-T7020's or no phone still have the problem/feature of DDS lighting on incoming CO ring (work around - use delay ring).
I am unable to get any KX-T7020's to program or operate at all. Are these phones compatible with the KX-TA824? My supplier's techie, who has been helpful today, says yes; my experience so far - says no (work around - buy some 7700's)
Next step is to dive into the software programming. I think I've exhausted the programming from a phone (really use to the 616). Any particular areas covering DDS and BLFs fot SLT that I should focus on?
BTW, this is a relatively simple install. It is in a private home that is rented during the summers. So a way to answer 2 COs or intercom from about 12 locations, a fax and a simple answering machine. The only thing the 616 needed (or, actually, I wanted) was CID and a few more extensions.
I had great luck with the KX-T61610 for 20+ years in this location. Hoping the 824 is as durable and trouble free.
Thx

Two dealers told me it had been discontinued. Figuring out the initial configuration and the add-ons I needed was difficult. Concerned about 2.4 traffic interference with Wi-Fi. Unsure about KX-T7000 phone compatibility. Unsure of the cost but assumed it was more than an 824. Concerned about renters misplacing or walking off with the wireless handsets.
The geek inside me liked the integration of wireless with wire, call passing from cell to cell, etc.
Simplicity, availability, backward compatibility, currently supported hardware were important and won out.

Tested the KX-T7020's connected directly to the KX-TA824. There is very little feedback when programming unlike the 7030's, but they do work.
Need to check the wiring at a few mod plugs to make sure there are no shorts or crossed pairs.
Once programmed the 7020's DSS buttons on other extensions behave like the 7030's (DSS lights up for intercom, transfer, off-hook but not on incoming CO ringing).
SLT DSS still lights on CO ringing, but I can delay ringing on the SLT which minimizes the problem. I'm going to try to wire the SLT in parallel with a system phone and see what happens.
The KSU and system phones are operating properly and the programming is sufficient for the moment. So I'm almost done!
Sort of an odd-ball problem. I'm just relieved that the hardware does not have to be replaced. Thank you Carl and Alvaphonepro for the suggestions.
