I have an Inter tel system and recently got a music on hold system. I have connected it to my phone system but can barely hear the recording when on hold or as background music. Is there a place to boost the volume within the phone system?

No, use the volume control on the music source.
Make sure the 1/8" plug into the PBX is mono, not stereo.

It is mono and I did turn up the volume on the music on hold box. If i plug my phone in to the music on hold box, I can hear the music fine. If I take a Telco tester set and hook it up to the output cord, all I hear is the recording real low. I have asked them to send me another box but wanted to make sure there was not something I was missing in the Inter-tel set-up for Music on Hold. Thanks

Is there an impedance switch? If so, make sure it's set for 8 ohms and not 600.
You should hear the music clearly on the butt set.

Been told to find a Radio Shack Grey RCA to 1/8 mono cable. That it is just a fraction longer on the tip then their black one. Anyone heard of this?

Thanks everyone for you help! This is what I did. I went to Radio Shack and picked up several RCA to Mono 1/8 adapters and put it one on the RCA to RCA cable that came with the music on hold and it has volume now!!!
