I've provided double ring with a regular 1A2 interrupter by installing a slave relay that tracks the 60 IPM lamp flash rate. Of course, finding a relay that has a coil for 10VAC is a bit of a stretch, but a full wave bridge connected to the coil of a 12VDC relay will work just fine. Contacts on this relay are used to interrupt the RN output, providing a precise double ring cadence, right from a stock interrupter with no modifications.

Oh, and yes... Using the 120 WPM wink rate to drive a slave relay will generate some interesting triple ring patterns too.

I'm pretty sure Sanbar offered a plug in interruptor for their 13 line panels (684?). And maybe ITT did on their little 601 KSUs.

But it's been a l o n g time.

Sanbar did. The SB6606B fit in the 319A panel, and they also made a 6604 Solid state interrupter that looked like the traditional one.

The ITT-601 interrupter was unique to itself IIRC.

Clever, Ed! Given the lamp sync rate is synced to the ring cadence, I imagine you end up with this (an opportunity for ASCII art, yay):

Code

                       <---- 2sec ---> <---------- 4sec -------------> <---- 2sec ---> <------ 4sec..
                       _______________                                 _______________
RING CADENCE:  _______|    RING #1    |_______________________________|    RING #2    |_______________...
                       ___     ___     ___     ___     ___     ___     ___     ___     ___     ___
RING FLASH:    _______| 1 |___| 2 |___| 3 |___| 4 |___| 5 |___| 6 |___| 7 |___| 8 |___| 9 |___|10 |___...
                       ___     ___                                     ___     ___
ED'S OUTPUT:   _______|   |___|   |___________________________________|   |___|   |__________________...
                       RING    RING                                    RING    RING

Hope I got it right -- Nice trick! And the 10VAC -> (Bridge Rect + 25V/1kuF cap) would make a nice clean DC for a relay coil.

The last time I tried to take an interrupter apart, I was successful in creating a handful of useless parts. Gave new meaning to the expression "exploded diagram."

Ed, you clever lad. I am going out to the shop tomorrow to try that scheme. Bravo!

Oh, it gets even more interesting when you add a relay driven from the 120 IPM hold wink. You can mix the slave relays' outputs to create all kinds of ring cadences that are properly sequenced. The mix of hold wink and RN will likely create something closer to the British ring that Greg is seeking. Mixing all three will provide a quad ring pattern.
