Got a friend of a friend that works for at&t. They have cisco for the plant phones. They have an old isotec 96 as the page interface for the plant.
The system is xx years old and may die at some point. What could be done from the cisco side to be used as a page interface. Wire in the speaker of a phone for the audio input? Is there a module that could be used?
The guy has talked to cisco about the questions and per him, was no $%## good. They are in their own world.
Input is 600 ohm with 2mw input for a level.
I don't know what the cisco system is or the hardware configuration. The site has around 1,000 phones through out the building.
Any suggestion are thanked and will be passed along.

Probably not the best answer....but have you checked with Viking to see if they have a unit that will handle it?

Thanks for the reply. yes, I have looked at Viking pi-1 unit. Use it as a co port page access.
Passed the info along and see if that will help.
Thanks again for the reply.

It can probably be done off of a CO port (FXO) with a Bogen TAMB2. If you want to page through the phones, look at a solution from Singlewire. The latter will be much more expensive, but it would allow all-call and zone paging through the phones.

Is there a reason they don't put a paging port on the Cisco?

I think because there isn't a logical place to put it. Using an FXO port seems to make as much sense as anything, given the system architecture. Definitely makes more sense than the music on hold adapter.

We've done it in the past with an FXS port feeding a Viking RAD. Works pretty well.
Sometimes the thoughts in my head get so bored, they go for a stroll through my mouth. This is rarely a good thing.

Have you looked at the Valcom PagePro IP ? Would that work for you?

Thanks for all the replies.
I will pass along all the info along. I'm not sure what will work and not work.
I know that there was issues with cost and what could be ordered.
I think the set up with the fxo and the viking unit is the way they are going with right now. Makes it easy to allow and deny who can page and who can't.
Thanks,
Mike
