Howdy all,

Have to get this out of the way, first post!

Anywho, I have this gold radio shack phone I picked up at the thrift store where I work. And its missing a microphone.

I was wondering if putting in a new one was as easy as putting in the mic from a cheap hands free cell phone head set? Or is it more complicated then that?

The wires are all there, just the acuall mic is missing.

PS, I plugged it in and tested it to make sure it dials, rings, and the speaker works fine. So as soon as I pop this mic in I'm good to go.

First, welcome to the wacky world of old phones. The "microphone" is called a transmitter unit, and the thing that you listen to is called the receiver unit.

It probably takes a plain old T1 (tee one) transmitter from a G 3 handset, found on a typical 2500 set.

2500 head set? I'm not sure what that is.

But then again, I don't know much about the world of phones (just that it'd be awesome to own a functional rotary phone).

2500-a basic touchtone phone. We often refer to phones as sets.

Problem is, by appearance, this is probably not a standard T-1 size. So now, you get to find an electret equivalent and that is going to be difficult unless something pops out at you.
Tough to do without the part.

I'd be willing to bet a quarter (BIG SPENDER!) that it's a little electret mike on a P.C. board, somewhat like you find if you crack open a NT 7XXX series handset.

are you talking about the phone i'm trying to fix, or the transmitter I'm replacing?

I opened up the....ear piece, and it looked alot like the Carbon Equivalent Electret EMS-94. two screws on the bottom of it, two wires leading into the head set and going...somewhere.

where can you get one of those 2300 phones? Or just the head sets, don't acually need the phone portion.

Come to think of it, can I just buy the transmitter?
