I'd like to use a 1a2 phone (Western Electric 2565 6 button) on a single line at home. I know that it works with the 2 cables somewhere on the large connector (1&25 ??) but I'd like to see the telephone light without a key system. Do you know an easy tip to make it when the phone rings ?
Thanks !

This is important to say that I have only one phone, no intercom or other needed.

If you are just looking to have the line button light solid when you use the line, it can be done pretty easily. You can also make it ring on the line as well.
For the light, you will need some source of 10 volts AC, like a small plug-in transformer. Connect one wire from the transformer to the orange/white wire going to the phone. Connect the other wire of the transformer to the green/white wire of the phone. Lastly, connect the white/orange and white/green wires together by themselves.
For the line itself, send it into the phone on the white/blue pair. If you want it to ring, connect the line also to the yellow/slate pair. This will allow the ringer to be connected directly to the phone line. This assumes that the phone hasn't been modified internally.
This setup is for display purposes only, and the hold function won't work at all without a key system and line card.

My wife was watching Diagnosis Murder last night and there was a 564/565 on the desk. I said man that's an old phone. She said only I'd look to see what kind of phones were on a show.
OBTW, purpose would probably be just for the old time look..Ed send him an autographed picture of yourself.

I forgot to ask if it's also OK with the 4a speaker system. I don't have the transformer for that, can I use the same for both light power and 4a system ?

The 85B1 power supply for the 4A is 18vac the lamps take 10vac, you could probably use the same transformer but the lamps will more than likely not last as long. Other than that for no more than you're tying in I doubt it would hurt.
