There is so much available on the market now and the pricing is all over the place, it's pretty tough to answer this. I think all installers have their favorites. For cameras, I tend to like Silent Witness, which is now part of the Honeywell conglomerate. They have a vandal proof dome now as well. For PTZ domes, I use Pelco. For a good quality DVR with the features you are looking for (with a CDR drive in it) look at Samsung. A higher end unit would be Capture.
I think what is more important is dealing with a supplier that can service you quickly. There is so much product coming from China now, sometimes there is no back-up or parts in stock locally. If you don't stick to a brand name, remember, it's probably disposable.

Use static IP addresses so they don't change everywhere. I mean if you are using passwords, you don't need dynamic IP's.
